Become A Trainer

In 1996, Satoshi Tajirn created Pokémon, a video-game series that began as a selection of two games: Red and Green. Eventually, the series evolved into a multi-media franchise, spanning animated television, films, and (of course) the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG).

Based on the concept of the source material, the card game allows fans to take on the role of a trainer, using their collection of monsters to battle other players. Over the course of each session, Pokémon are deployed to attack the opponent. Knocking out your rival’s Pokémon of choice gives the player permission to draw a ‘Prize’ card, which is one of the primary objectives of the game. Should a player draw a total of six Prize cards, they automatically win. Likewise, if a player removes all of their opponent’s Pokémon from play or renders them unable to draw, they win.

There are a variety of different cards types that comprise the game, including Basic and Evolved. Amongst these, Secret Rare Pokémon are some of the most coveted card types, often featuring a prestigious gold outline and shiny holofoil.

Much like the original video-game series and the animated show, Pokémon cards feature a number of unique monsters. Generally, they fall into one of the following categories: Green (Grass), Red (Fire), Blue (Water), Yellow (Lightning), Purple (Psychic), Brown/Orange (Fighting), Black (Darkness), Silver (Metal), Gold (Dragon), Pink (Fairy), or White (Colourless).
