A New Disney Princess

Brave (2012) was a new style of Disney Princess film produced by Pixar Animation Studios in collaboration with Disney.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, the film tells the story of an outspoken redheaded Princess named Merida. Her mother, Elinor, is an elegant Queen who is trying to teach Merida to be a true, obedient, and elegant Princess - but she justifiably isn’t keen on conforming to the status quo.

Merida, becoming frustrated with her overbearing mother, visits a witch’s hut and creates an enchanted pastry to give to her mother, believing that it will resolve her issues.

However, after the queen eats it, she becomes a hideous beast. Merida must save her by finding the witch and getting her to change her mother back. All Merida wanted was to be free and have her mother stop being so controlling, but she got much more than she bargained for.

Talent And Recognition

The film's voice cast features Kelly Macdonald (Merida), Billy Connolly (King Fergus), Emma Thompson (Queen Elinor), Julie Walters (the Witch), Robbie Coltrane (Lord Dingwall), Kevin McKidd (Lord MacGuffin), and Craig Ferguson (Lord Macintosh).

In recognition of Brave’s contribution to film, it won the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
